Designed to equip students to work alongside engineers, operators, maintainers, and installers and prepare them for multiple careers in the wastewater industry by providing hands-on training and technical expertise required for working within this field. Students will gain valuable experience and knowledge in wastewater management, environmental and physical sciences, sustainability, and project-based learning, including conducting site assessments, evaluating onsite wastewater system (OWS) options, preparing permit applications, and using computer-aided design (CAD) software. Alongside foundational coursework, the certificate program concludes with a capstone experience. In this final project, students work in teams to conduct sanitation assessments for local homeowners, culminating in drafting engineering design drawings and comprehensive reports recommending each property's most suitable Onsite Wastewater Treatment Systems (OWS).
